For Nørhalne Cup, our partners and, not least, a huge number of enthusiastic young football players, it is with great regret that we have been forced to cancel Nørhalne Cup and Nørhalne Elite Cup 2020 due to the current COVID-19 pandemic.
As organisers, we have a huge responsibility towards our 1,800 volunteer helpers and the 10,000-12,000 participants competing at Nørhalne Cup, and we therefore have to take heed of the instructions issued by the authorities and react to them in a timely manner. In light of the present circumstances, it seems unlikely that the COVID-19 outbreak will be over by 20 May, and we are therefore concerned that the spread of infection will not have been checked by this time, regardless of the fact that we have spent recent weeks planning a range of measures to combat the danger of infection during the tournament itself.
Nørhalne Cup is an international tournament in which around half of the participants come from abroad. Unfortunately, these countries are also affected by COVID-19, bringing with it the risk of carrying the infection to or from the country, which is a situation we desperately wish to avoid.
In close cooperation with the Danish Football Association, the Sports Confederation of Denmark and the local authorities, a decision has therefore been made to cancel this year’s Nørhalne Cup, which was otherwise set to be a record year with the participation of some of Europe’s biggest clubs.
It goes without saying that it is a great shame that we will be unable to provide the backdrop for great sport, the spirit of community and fantastic experiences that characterise Nørhalne Cup, but will instead turn our attention to holding a safe and successful tournament next year.
We therefore hope to see all participants at Nørhalne Cup in 2021, which will be held from 13-15 May.
We wish you all the best for an enjoyable summer – stay safe and take care.
